Academic Supports
ATU provides a range of Academic Supports for students – We have invested heavily in our learning facilities and academic supports to ensure our students are fully supported throughout their academic journey.
This include Maths support, Academic Writing support, Learning Support, Assistive Technology Support, as well as our Library and Access and Widening Participation Service. See here for more.
Student Health Service
he Student Health Service has three on campus medical services one each on the Letterkenny campus, the Galway City campus and the Sligo campus. These provide services to students attending these campuses in addition to Mountbellew, Wellpark and St Angela’s.
The unit is staffed by a team of nurses and doctors who have extensive experience in student health issues and can offer specialist clinics to students, all completely free of charge! For more, see here.
Careers Service
ATU Careers Service provides information, advice and support to help you plan and progress your career goals.
You might book an appointment with a Careers Officer to:
- Increase your awareness of career options with your chosen course.
- Discuss options for postgraduate study and acquire help with the application.
- Consider transfer to a different course or to a different university.
- Discuss and gain support with job hunting and graduate recruitment.
- Be supported in completing applications, compiling CVs and cover letters
- Receive analysis and help preparing for a job interview.
- Create an effective LinkedIn Profile

Student Counselling Service
College is a big step with many rewards but also challenges. Counselling can be helpful for all kinds of difficulties, both academic and personal. The Counselling Services at ATU offer a professional counselling service, which is a safe, open and non-judgemental place to discuss whatever a student’s concerns are.
